I'm Jacob Hiltz, a professional audio engineer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I mix and master remotely for artists across genres. I work with everything from home recordings to professionally recorded tracks and everything in between. My job is to get them sounding clear and balanced, while keeping the energy that made the songs work in the first place.

I started recording in my teens on a Tascam 4-track, mostly myself and friends, just for fun. That grew into more serious work over the years. I now work out of the Electric Loft, the studio I built.

My approach is simple. I listen to what the music needs and mix it from there. If you want your record to sound like your band, only clearer, get in touch.

Mixing

I've been mixing music for over a decade and a half, working with everyone including - punk, metal, indie, alternative, and blues artists. I know how to bring out what makes each genre special while making sure everything sounds clear and powerful.

Mixing comes down to using your ears and knowing your tools. I listen to what each track needs, then use the right gear and techniques to get it there. Whether you need a single mixed or a full album, I'll put in the time to make it sound right.

I like working with artists throughout the process because you know your music best. We'll go back and forth until the mix captures what you're going for.

When we're finished, you'll have something that sounds professional and ready to release.

Mastering

Mastering is the final step before your music goes out into the world. It's where we make sure your tracks sound good on everything from earbuds to car stereos to streaming platforms.

I've been mastering music across punk, metal, indie, alternative, and blues for years. My job is to take your finished mixes and make them sound cohesive as an album, while making sure each song has the clarity and punch it needs. Whether you mixed the tracks yourself or worked with another engineer, I can help get them ready for release.

I use professional mastering tools and years of experience to balance your tracks, control dynamics, and make sure they translate well across different playback systems. I'll also make sure your music meets the technical standards for whatever format you're releasing on—vinyl, CD, or streaming.

We'll work together to make sure the final masters match what you're going for. Your music will sound polished and professional, but it'll still sound like you.
